Teaching English at a Kindergarten

Practicing their ABCs. A Chinese father and his daughter practice the English alphabet, using
Greg and Jodi Latza's South Dakota: An Alphabetical Scrapbook. We brought five copies
to China, and they have been well used and well received. (photo by Lyle)

J, K, L and M. Alyssa helps teach the letter M to her group. We used "mama" to illustrate M, but Zhou, our interpreter
and friend, explained the signficance of the picture in the book of Mt. Rushmore. Zhou said that the
director of this kindergarten is considered one of the best in China. (photo by Aaron)

A Trio of Teachers. Zhou, Alyssa and Gwen teach English words. This Saturday session was optional for
children and their parents. We were asked to come back for a session in May, a field trip and a spring program
(prepared to perform something). Kindergarten children attend from 7:30 to 5:30 five days a week. (photo by Aaron)

Tattoo Man. Aaron applies a tattoo on the hand of a Chinese boy. The tattoos said South Dakota
and had an image of a buffalo. The children said "wo yao, wo yao" or "I want, I want."
A big hit , we got them from the South Dakota Department of Tourism. (photo by Lyle)

Tattoo Lady. Alyssa applied tattoos to both children and teachers. Gwen ran a third
application station. Lyle took pictures and was in charge of the blue water container.
