Visitors From Home. A group from
SDSU arrived May 18. We ate with them at Pizza da
Rocco, Italian home cooking in a old-style
house in Kunming. From left are Billy Fuller,
Ali Selim, David Evans, Jan Evans, Lyle,
Fahti Halwaweish, Ali Salehnia, Molly
Lefholz, Alyssa and Gwen. Missing is Jay
Shore. (photo by Aaron)
A Very Special Woman.
Zhou has helped everyone from SDSU who has come to Kunming
since 1991. A former journalist, she is
a fountain of knowledge. She has helped us
innumerable times, such as buying silk at a wholesale market. (photo by

International Party. Aaron's 15th
birthday party in China had an international flavor. Special
guests were Zhou (Jo), a very special
friend to us and previous SDSU exchange professors
and Ray from Ohio, both sitting on the
sofa. Seated at the table are Matius from Finland
(he speaks four languages) and Kern, an
American living in Kunming. (photo by Lyle)
Crazy 8s. On the trip to Dali, Alyssa
taught Qinwei how to play Crazy 8s. Mr. Yu Qinwei, chief of
Foreign Teacher's Affairs at Yunnan Normal,
was the first person we met in China. He is very
helpful and has taken good care of us.
He and Alyssa get along quite well. (photo by Gwen)
Marble Contest. At Dali College's
International Day, westerners amused the Chinese by using
chopsticks to take marbles out of water.
Aaron lost to Ray (10 marbles to three). Ray, who
teaches at Yunnan Normal, is a special
friend who has helped us a lot. (photo by Lyle)
Foreign Teachers. From left, Gwen,
Alyssa, Kevin and Erica Smith from Australia, Janet Jamieson
from Vermont and Teresa O'Donovan
from Canada wait for their food at the T-Cafe/Gallery, a
Swedish restaurant where we all celebrated
a birthday party. (photo by Aaron)
More Foreign Teachers. At the same
birthday party, Lyle, Aaron, Karen from Kentucky,
Jane and Ian from England and Witwat from
Thailand wait for their food.
It was Karen's birthday. (photo by Alyssa)
Another Chinese Meal . At Shizong,
we enjoyed the company of, from left, Priscilla from Chicago,
Irene and Liu Fei, who organized the trip
to Junzi Mountain and Lisa, Toby, Dale and Mia Craven,
Americans living in Kunming. (photo by
