Junzi (Mushroom) Mountain
Interview Time. The Junzi (or Mushroom) Mountain tourist site opened up March 8, 2002. Our group
of 10 was the first western group. A videographer from a tv station in Shizong, a city of 350,000 over
an hour away, came along for publicity shots and interviews. The mountain is known for its wildflowers
and edible mushrooms. Aaron, Alyssa and Lyle were interviewed, but they missed Gwen. (photo by Gwen)

Wild Flowers. The wildflowers were less abundant because of snow on March 5, but there were still
some to see along the trail to the peak at about 9,000 feet. (photo  by Lyle)

Close Up. The red flowers were the most colorful. (photo by Alyssa)

Picnic. Our group enjoyed a picnic lunch. (photo by Lyle)

The Flowers are Beautiful. Toby and Mia Craven's parents coach them during their interview.
They said the "flowers are beautiful" in English, and they said something in Chinese.
The Cravens, from the United States, live in Kunming. (photo by Lyle)

A Busy River. After visiting the mountain, we went to Shuizhai Village, inhabited by the Zhuang minority,
for an evening meal. The river running through the village was the center of activity, including Saturday
night bathing, clothes washing and swimming. (photo by Aaron)

Raft Ride. While waiting to eat, our group enjoyed a peaceful
ride on a flat raft poled by youngsters. (photo by Lyle)
