From the Pastor's Desk

Dear Friends in Christ,

How is praying going?  In September we encouraged you to pray.  Do continue.  The church is always open.  Come here to pray.
Now in October, we add another basic faith practice -
study of the Bible.  I want to call adults and youth back to study of the scriptures. The Word is power and wisdom.
At home, in a group read/listen to the Bible that you might be equipped to be a disciple.  See more below.
                                     Peace,   Pastor John

YOUTH NOTES

Here are a few youth opportunities coming up.  Talk to Brenda, Ernie, or Roy.
9-12th Graders, registration for The Atlanta Gathering (TAG) is still open.

Why would 40,000+ young people want to get together to celebrate and grow in their faith in Jesus Christ?  That may be the question!   Well, of our 6 youth registered, most are repeaters, ask them.  Look what happens at TAG.  You will have abundant "hang out time" as you travel to Atlanta to chill with old friends and new ones.  It's hard to describe what it's like to be with 25,000 youth singing, dancing, and worshipping, receiving communion all together in one huge arena with great contemporary music, dynamite speakers, and the latest in light and sound - all delivering the One who unites us all - Jesus!  Then head over with your friends to a huge convention center full of fun stuff to do - sports, extreme games, service & experiential learning events, relax spots.  Add on hotel life when you meet new friends from all over the world.  Need more?  How about Atlanta - tons of things to do, places to go!
We would love to have more of you go  because we do care for you and are absolutely convinced that for most young people this will be a terrific faith & fun event.  We know you're a fun loving, outgoing, live it up group, and TAG is created for  people like you.
Arrangements are being made with other congregations for transportation.  Register with the appropriate form (ask Brenda for one) and a deposit of $100.  We are committed to enabling every person to go who wants to go and who will make the necessary community and fund raising efforts. So don't let a short financial situation hinder you, talk confidentially with Brenda or Pastor John to receive the help you need and get registered.

September 29 - Luther League (grades 7-12) will go horseback riding at Canyon Ranch rural Veblen.  We leave after Sunday School today.  Bring lunch.

October 16 - Crossfire will do a concert at ALC at 7:00 p.m.  Crossfire is a Youth Encounter Music Team which travels the country from Sept. to Dec., then goes on mission to Africa through Easter, then returns to the same USA places to share the joy and power of their ministry in Africa.
They will lead our confirmation program on the 16th, then lead us in their youth and family concert.  Invite your friends.  It will be good with music, puppets, skits, etc. all celebrating and sharing faith in Christ in an enjoyable, provocative way.  Parents and children, young and old and inbetween, single, married, grandpa and grandma - everyone will enjoy Crossfire.
When they leave we can follow them on the net and track their ministry in Africa.
