September 12, 2001 Church Council Meeting Minutes
Those present: Lisa Janssen, Gareth Hamen, Roy Wiersma, Pastor John, Craig Bass, John Top and Lynn Vetter. Not Present: Ernie Karst, Sherwin DeKam and Kay
Zimiga.
John Top opened the meeting and Pastor John lead the Council in prayer. Lynn read the minutes from the July meeting as we did not have minutes from the August meeting. Minutes were approved as read.
Gareth read the August treasurer's report. Roy made the motion to approve as is, Lynn seconded. Motion carried.
Pastor John gave his report. He said it was time to do an annual review with our church secretary. It was agreed by all to have John Top, Dennis Strait and Pastor John to set a time with Kay Carter to review her position and to report back in next month's meeting any concerns. Pastor will be attending "Pizza and Possibilities" on September 13th at St. Paul's Church in Clear Lake, SD. Pastor also stated he has 11 students in our Confirmation class this year. Sunday School has started and is going well.
John Top gave the Property Report. He stated we still need to have the rubber pipe sealer on the parsonage roof. Craig reported we had it and he would see to it. Dennis reported he had completed the temporary ramp to the altar for wheelchair access and it was in the old church office.
Lynn reported for the Worship Committee. He stated all was set for Sunday morning worship for Pastor's absence on September 16. All board members agreed to have a lay pastor for Pastor's absence on October 7th. Pastor will try to fill the opening. Lynn also asked the Council if a Healing Worship Service could be held on October 3 at 7:00 p.m. The Council all agreed.
The Outreach Committee reported. They are still working on the Church TV broadcast.
OLD BUSINESS
John Top reported his wife Bonnie and himself have decided to take the "Talent Offering" of $30.00 and multiply it by making some apple pies and selling them. Anyone interested in accepting it next is to see John Top.
Pastor John informed the Council the 'Mid-Sized Congregational Project Seminar' is coming up fast and ALC needs a few more participants. This is scheduled for September 21-22. This should be read to the congregation next Sunday in the announcements. At this time Pastor John and John Top are planning to attend.
NEW BUSINESS
The Council all agreed to have the Building Committee hang the picture of David Lund in the appropriate spot in the church. The Church Council is proud of his accomplishments.
ALC will be donating themselves to feed the hungry at the Watertown Banquet on February 4, 2002 at the Salvation Army. Volunteers are to see the Pastor. This is to be discussed in the upcoming months.
The Council all agreed to have Thanksgiving Dinner again this year on November 18 at 11:00 a.m., and to invite the entire community. Details to be discussed in the upcoming meetings.
Pastor wants ALC to be prepared for a Prayer Service concerning the recent attacks by terrorists in New York and Washington, D.C., for the victims, families and rescue workers. This possibly could be announced if the United States retaliates or any unforeseen events occur.
Craig made the motion to adjourn. Roy seconded. Motion carried.
