October 17, 2001 Church Council Meeting Minutes


  Those present: Kay Zimiga, Pastor John, Dennis Strait, Ernest Karst, Craig Bass, John Top, Sherwin DeKam, Gareth Hamen and Lynn Vetter.  Not present:  Lisa Janssen and Roy Wiersma.  Also attending was Charles Juntti.
  John Top opened the meeting with Ernie giving devotions.  Kay Zimiga is to give devotions for November meeting.  Lynn read the minutes from the September meeting, all agreed as read. Craig informed the Council for the Watertown Banquet on February 4, 2002, which ALC will be feeding the hungry, all food items will be furnished by AAL.  For ALC's Thanksgiving Dinner on November 18, Lynn Borer will be directing all the food items.  Kay made the motion for Sunday, November 18 that Sunday School will start promptly at 9:00 a.m., with church service to start at 10:00 a.m., and our dinner to start approximately 11:15 a.m. with a free will offering.  Gareth seconded.  Motion carried.

  Gareth gave the Treasurer's report.  Dennis made the motion to approve, Ernie seconded.  Motion carried.

  Pastor John gave his pastor's report.  He stated the CROP Walk was a success with 32 walkers and approximately $1,534.00 was raised.  He reported his Confirmation class is going very well.  He also informed the Council there are 42 local congregations currently without a pastor in our conference and to please pray for all of them, and if anyone feels the Lord calling them to let your call be known.

  Kay reported for the Christian Education Committee.  We will need to be thinking about a date for the Christmas program, with a possible date of December 16th, 2001.

  Sherwin gave the Property report.  We still need the sewer pipe seal on the roof of the parsonage, and he will check with Jim Bohls concerning the parsonage windows, and check with Loren Mack to see if the Baptism boxes are complete.  Dennis will check on the railing for the back door of the parsonage.

  Pastor John commented on the Youth Committee.  On September 9th, he had a Youth Kickoff with food and devotions, with 12 in attendance.

  Pastor John stated on December 9th, 2001 they will have the Pastor's Community Christmas Service, possibly at the Hamlin Reform Church at 7:30 p.m.

  John Top informed the Council that Pastor John, Dennis and himself would try to meet with Kay Carter to review her Church secretary position.

OLD BUSINESS
  John Top reported the Talent Offering is now at approximately $90.00.  Anyone interested in multiplying this is to contact the Church Council.  Sherwin DeKam is currently holding the proceeds.

NEW BUSINESS
  Pastor John asked if at our next Council meeting some representatives from Lutheran Outdoors could meet with us.  All agreed.

  Gareth also informed the Council that the 2002 budget should be discussed at our December 12th meeting.  He will work on a proposed budget to present at that meeting.

  Pastor John, John Top and Chuck Juntti gave the Council a brief overview on their meeting in Groton concerning the Mid-Sized Congregation seminar which was very informative and productive to keep our congregation growing through Christ.  Details to be provided by Pastor John.

  Ernie made the motion to adjourn. Gareth seconded. Motion carried. Council closed with the Lord's Prayer.
