From the Pastor's Desk

Dear Brothers & Sisters,
Greetings to you in Christ!
What do a birth certificate, barbells, a loaf of bread, a shower head and goggles have in common?  Each is a symbol of Lent. In fact, each is a symbol for the core message of one of our Lenten Evening Services.  Now add to this the information that the theme of evening Lent Services flows from the Lord's prayer - "A Father's Love."  Are you curious yet?
I really hope you will come to Lenten Services.  It's an engaging evening of worship and fellowship for you and your family.  Let us make supper for you.  come to supper (for a free will donation) between 5:45 and 6:45 p.m.  Worship at 7:00 p.m. and you'll be out of here about 7:45 p.m. with both your tummy and soul well fed.
We will wrap the worship service in the beautiful (and so singable, I can even get it) Holden Evening Prayer.  Included in it will be Word, prayer, songs, the Passion account and of course birth certificate, barbells, loaf of bread, shower head and goggles.
I think you will find these services worship - full & spiritually stimulating.  I invite you to worship with us; even bring a friend.
The God of mercy bless you and keep you!

What will you give of yourself
for Lent?

Traditional practices of Lent are Prayer, Fasting, and Acts of Love.  Fasting seems so far from our culture, that I'm not sure what to suggest to you for that.  Perhaps you can think of something
meaningful to deny yourself that to do so would be God serving, not self-serving.  I'll work on that; will you too?
I do encourage you to do special
acts of love during Lent - perhaps your neighbor would benefit from a kindness, or your spouse, or someone you aren't close to.  Keep your eyes open; respond to a need.  What act of love could you do as a family?
Finally I invite you to reflect and act with me on Prayer.  We will do this for 45 minutes on Sunday mornings on the Sundays of Lent.  Picture with me our fellowship hall filled with adults (picture yourself as one of them) doing Sunday School, too because it's dawned on us that the Word is for us, that we do want to have what God would give to us, and that our children need us to set an example.
I promise - worship will conclude by 10a.m., we'll have a chance to get a cup of coffee and a goodie or 2 and have some conversation.  then at 10;30a.m. we will study prayer in the bible and we will pray.  No one will be put on the spot with a direct question.  We'll learn and we'll have fun together.
There is so much to learn, so much to grow - no way your confirmation pastor could possibly squeeze it all in.  Now in more mature years is when we can really digest His word and enjoy growing spiritual health as Jesus intersects our daily living.
What will you give of yourself during Lent?  Will you give of your time to be blessed in your praying and to be blessed through your prayers?  Come,  study, and grow with us!

                                  Pastor John
