CHURCH COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES
MAY 8, 2002  7:00 p.m.

Those present were Rod, Gareth, Lynn B., Sharon, Sherwin, Craig, Pastor John, Ernie, Dennis, Roy and Lynn Vetter.   Pastor John gave devotions to begin our meeting. Dennis is to have devotions next month. Lynn V. read the Secretary's report, Sherwimade the motion to approve, Lynn B. seconded, motion carried. The Council had discussion on our budget with a possible drop in attendance during the summer months and if we were to miss a Sunday Worship, to continue with giving the next Sunday. Craig agreed to inform the Congregation next Sunday.
Pastor John gave his Pastor's report by reviewing an article on stewardship. The article addressed the need to give to God and the need to increase your giving according to your blessings and faith, which God always rewards the faithful. He also informed us of his hospital stay starting May 15 and the Worship Committee will be doing church service May 19. Anyone wishing to help with the service is to see Rod.
Lynn B. informed the Council that Stein Sign will be looking at our outside cross on the east end of the church as soon as the weather cooperates. Craig informed us the new windows are in the parsonage, south side only. Craig also repaired our outside bell, we thank him. Lynn V. informed the Council that Danny Davis would take care of our church lawn, and to please thank him for a job well done. Also, I was informed by Doug Strait that the overhead microphone is not working for taping and a new one would cost $180-$200 to replace. Roy has begun to install a rail in the parsonage garage and hopes to be finished by next meeting.

Sherwin let us know Vacation Bible School is set for May 20 - 24, 9 am to 1 pm. The program will be on Thursday. Also, we would like to make an order for our church bibles the last week of May, so anyone wanting to donate $18 for one is encouraged to do so. Ernie informed us of the upcoming "Dakota Celebration", which is a cookout/retreat on June 7 & 8. Let him know if you are interested in attending, as many congregations take part in this event. Also, on August 16 & 17 there will be a concert in Huron, which is a camp for our young people. See Ernie for details.

OLD BUSINESS:  The Council discussed our church directory and decided to have a dedication in it honoring David Prohl for all of his work he had put into this project.

NEW BUSINESS:  Pastor made a suggestion to give bibles to other age children in our congregation. Anyone with input please see a Council member. The Council reviewed our mission giving and Fund. Lynn B. made the motion to give $100 each to the following missions: Synod Assembly Offering, Lutheran Outdoors-SD, Stand with Africa, and St. Dysmus Prison Ministry. Craig seconded. Motion carried.  Pastor John and Dee Vetter are currently working on a Family Ministry. this will be a faith family style event in the fall of this year. It will consist of working with families and faith, helping children with everyday life. The Council decided for the summer months to have our meetings after church rather than the traditional Wednesday nights. Our next meeting will be June 2.

Sharon made the motion to adjourn, Lynn B. seconded, motion carried. The church council closed with the Lord's Prayer.
