A Time for Renewal

The church new year begins December 2 with the first Sunday of Advent. Perhaps Advent can be for you a time of renewal in your faith life. Pick up the Advent devotion booklet and/or Christ in Our Home. Then read and pray it in this Holy Season and beyond.

There will be NO Sunday School on December 23 and December 30.

Because you have shared in our lives by your friendship and love, Alisha Zimiga and Kendall Nielsen together with their parents invite you to share the beginning of their new life together when they exchange marriage vows on December 31st at 5:00 p.m. at American Lutheran Church.  A reception will follow at the Castlewood Steakhouse.

Correction from October Newsletter

The October newsletter contained an article from Deb Geelsdottir, indicating she had written the article.  Deb sends this message: "I did not write the article. It's one of the flood of forwards that hit cyberspace on September 11. It's a great piece, but unfortunately not mine. I'd like you to ask your pastor to put a note in the next newsletter correcting that. It can be small, but I don't want credit for something I didn't do."

South Dakota Human Services Center assistance

The Holiday Season is traditionally a time for caring and sharing. Over the years your generosity has helped provide gifts for the patients at the SDHSC, and through your efforts the Christmas holiday has been much merrier. Due to limited space, please be sure all donations are purchased new, as they are unable to accept used clothing, glass bottles or small mirrors. Those of you who so willingly donate gifts, the patients need and enjoy:

For Men:  colored and white large and XL T-shirts, XL flannel shirts, shampoo, wallets, caps, gloves, aftershave, cologne, underwear, athletic socks

For Women: Socks, large and XL T-shirts/shirts, makeup, perfume, mittens, shampoo, conditioner, underwear

For Teens: Large and XL T-shirts, jeans, underwear, makeup, pump hairspray (alcohol free), socks, card games, board games, photo albums, posters

General: cassette tapes (60s and 70s music, country), decaffeinated instant coffee, AA batteries, word find and crossword puzzle books, coloring books, crayons, markers, stationary, candy bars, gum, individual-sized snack crackers, individual-sized bags of chips, snack cakes, pudding, decaffeinated pop, sugar-free sweets, pajamas, slippers, 30-minute phone cards, all occasion greeting cards.

A Patient Benefit Fund for cash donations is also available. Please mail or deliver gifts to the SDHSC as soon as possible. We ask that you put your name and address on the outer box, but do not wrap the gifts. Please deliver gifts to the switchboard area located by the front entrance of the SD Human Services Center.

During the holidays, the SDHSC welcomes volunteers for Christmas caroling, wrapping presents, making quilts, bringing pets for visits, receptionist/greeter, baking cookies, reading to the patients, playing musical instruments.  If you have a desire to serve, contact Tara Gill, Volunteer Coordinator, at (605) 668-3100.
